Christ Lutheran Church's
Our mission, using our spiritual gifts, is to worship and praise God, nurture Christ-like growth, and equip our members for ministry in the church and life mission in the world, to bring people to Jesus.
Our church's roots date back to a meeting of sixteen members of Euclid Lutheran in
August of 1953 to discuss a "package mission" for the Willoughby-Mentor area. By
November, Pastor Volkmar was called by the Ohio Mission Board of the ALC, and in December
the parsonage was selected. The name "Christ Lutheran" was adopted February 17,
1954. The first service was held on Sunday, March 14 at 3:00pm in Masonic Temple
Auditorium.
The site for the new church was chosen in the summer of 1954, and the "new"
chapel was dedicated on June 24, 1956. Our educational wing was completed June 1, 1958.
After years of steady growth, an addition to the chapel and educational annex were
completed May 21, 1972.
There have now been a total of 4 pastors at Christ Lutheran, and many additional projects
have been completed. We've seen a member raised from the church complete seminary and
receive her ordination, installed a digital organ, renovated the sanctuary in a campaign
to include the narthex and offices, and have updated our Sunday School program to now
include six levels of children's education, including a youth group, as well as an adult class.
